COURSE TITLE:  COM 3950-004 Documentary Making

 

TERM: Fall 2003, Tuesdays 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM

 

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The course examines the genre of documentary filmmaking, including viewing a variety of international works and producing a documentary in DV format using single-camera field production techniques. Viewing and discussion of selected documentaries augment instruction in the production skills necessary to shoot and edit documentaries on DV. Exercises, ranging from script writing through post-production, culminate in production of a completed documentary as the final project.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: The instructor must be notified in advance (via phone call or email) of an absence from regular class activities. More than one absence will require a written excuse or some proof of an extenuating circumstance, otherwise, the student will have 10 points deducted from their Attendance grade. Repeated tardiness will also translate into point deductions from the Attendance grade. Athletes will be required to submit official forms signed by their respective coaches in the event of travel.

Final Project                                         = 100 pts.        40%

Documentary Journal                            = 100 pts.        40%

 

GRADING SCALE (%): A = 95-100; A- = 90-94; B+ = 87-89; B = 83-86; B- = 80-82;

C+ = 77-79; C = 73-76; C- = 70-72; D+ = 67-69; D = 63-66; D- = 60-62; F = below 60
